Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis released the following statement after the Metro Board of Directors passed her motion, co-authored by Directors Fasana, Garcetti, Najarian, and Barger, to reaffirm Metro’s commitment to complete the Foothill Gold Line Extension to Claremont and to identify possible funding sources that could be used to fill the funding gap:
“I made a promise, and Metro made a commitment, to Claremont and Pomona residents that we would extend the Foothill Gold Line Extension to Claremont and Montclair. I intend to do everything in my power to ensure that promise is kept.
Current economic conditions have resulted in the project needing hundreds of millions of dollars over the original project estimate.
I am glad that Metro unanimously passed my action today reaffirming our commitment to Claremont and Pomona residents to bring the Gold Line to those cities. No stone will be left unturned in Metro’s comprehensive effort to identify a way forward for the complete Foothill Gold Line Extension, as envisioned and promised to residents and voters.
Along with Claremont and Pomona, I look forward to the report back to the Metro Board of Directors with options for funding to extend the project all the way to Claremont.”
